Owen Best, a senior forest wildlife management student, was recently named as a recipient of the 2015 Ben Meadows Natural Resources Scholarship.
According to the announcement featured in the Society of American Foresters' Forestry Source Magazine, Ben Meadows has remained a purveyor of forestry and engineering field equipment for over 50 years and awards two $2500 scholarships annually to students pursuing a degree in a natural-resource related field.
“Forestry was really the only thing I could go to school for,” Best said. “I enjoy it and am passionate about it.”
Since his freshman year at ATCOFA, Best has assumed leadership roles in the SFA Student Chapters of Ducks Unlimited and The Wildlife Society. In March of this year, Best organized and led a waterfowl banding project with the U.S. Geological Survey, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the U.S. Forest Service.
