Dr. Jared Bares, assistant professor of horticulture at SFA’s Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture, was recently named the 2016 Young Professional of the Year by The Perennial Plant Association.
The award, announced at the 34th Perennial Plant Association Symposium in Minneapolis, MN, was created to recognize, honor and encourage participation, achievement and growth of young individuals in the industry. Individuals are selected based on their involvement in the PPA, their contributions to the field and their positive portrayal of the perennial plant industry to the public.
Barnes said the award is especially meaningful because he credits the association’s symposium with solidifying his pursuit of a career in horticulture.
“It's touching to see that the group I credit for helping me put down roots for my horticultural career recognize me and my work when I believe they are a big part of the reason I'm where I am today,” he said.
