Screen Shot 2017 12 14 at 11.20.10 AM copyAs 3-D printing becomes more accessible to the public, Dr. Yanli Zhang, associate professor of spatial science, is examining ways in which the technology can be incorporated into the classroom. 3-D printing of terrain is not to compete with 3-D digital models on the internet or with specialized GIS software; however, Zhang believes that a touchable terrain model offers viewers a different interpretation of the landscape. This provides students with a physical representation of how a landscape’s topography affects hydrology and more.
